Q-001: What is the quickest and most efficient way to receive refunds or Financial Aid disbursements?(Back to Top)

A: Direct Deposit is the best and most efficient means to receive any type of refund or Financial Aid. You can set this up on line through My FIU website If you do not already have a relationship with a bank and a checking or savings account, you can visit the Credit Union in the GC Building at MMC or WUC at BBC

Q-002: What types of payment do you accept?(Back to Top)

A: We only accept cash, panther card, checks, e-checks, money orders, traveler's checks, and credit card checks in person. (Checks and money orders must be drawn on U.S. affiliated banks and in U.S. Dollars). Payment Kiosks are also located in SACS, PC and Housing which accept cash and check payments 24/7. We do not accept credit cards at the counter. However, if you would like to use a credit card, you can pay your fees through the online portal . We accept American Express, Master Card, Visa and Discover Cards. There will be a 2% non-refundable Credit Card Surcharge charged to your credit card for Domestic Cards and 4.25% for International Cards.

Q-003: Who do I make my check payable to?(Back to Top)

A: You can make your check payable to Florida International University or FIU.

Q-004: What address do I mail my check to?(Back to Top)

A: Mail your check to:
          Florida International University
          Attn: Student Financial Services
          11200 SW 8 Street, SASC-101
          Miami, FL 33199.

Q-005: How can I pay for my classes or Accounts Receivable online?(Back to Top)

A: The only forms of payment accepted online (through the Web) are by e-check and credit card. For more information on payments, see above question, "What types of payment do you accept?".

Q-006: How can I pay for my classes or Accounts Receivable by credit card?(Back to Top)

A: The University does not accept credit cards in person. However, you may pay your current term tuition and fees or Accounts Receivable using e-check or a credit card through the web. For more information on on-line payments see above question, "What types of payment do you accept?".

Q-007: I added a class(es) after the Last Day to Pay Tuition and Fees for the current term, by when do I have to pay for them?(Back to Top)

A: Classes added after the Last Day to Pay Tuition and Fees for the current term must be paid for on the day you register for them in order to avoid a Late Payment Fee and the possibility of having all your classes cancelled.

Q-008: How do I submit my payment if I am getting a processing error message or I am not redirected to the payment portal?(Back to Top)

A: We are sorry that you encountered trouble with your payment. The error could be related to one of the following issues related to your financial institution:

  1. Your transaction amount exceeds the limit set by your financial institution. If you believe that this is the case, contact your financial institution to discuss options for payment.
  2. You have entered information that does not match your financial institutions records – Please verify the accuracy of the information and try your payment again
  3. Your transaction has been declined by your financial institution due to a hold on your account or insufficient funds or some other error – Please contact your financial institution for more information.

If none of these issues apply to you, please click the link for Browser related issues, or contact us at (305)348-2126 or by mail at stufinan@fiu.edu

Q-009: Why don’t I receive a bill in the mail and how do I know what I owe?(Back to Top)

A: Your bill is available online through your my.fiu.edu student center. Electronic billing is more efficient and accurate than paper statements since the balance is real-time and your account will update if you change your class schedule or any payments are posted to your account.

Q-010: I am receiving Financial Aid and it is enough to cover 100% of my tuition and fees. Why does it still show I owe money?(Back to Top)

A: Financial Aid money pays on students' accounts after the DROP/ADD period ends each term. Students with financial aid that covers 100% of tuition and fees do not need to pay any money before the Last Day to Pay each term. However, if your financial aid is less than your tuition and fees, then you must pay the difference by the Last Day to Pay . Students who fail to pay the difference will have their class schedule cancelled.

Q-011: I have both Florida Prepaid and Financial Aid, will all my tuition & fees be covered?(Back to Top)

A: Yes. If your anticipated aid is sufficient to cover the balance left after your Florida Prepaid has been applied, then you do not need to make a payment, however if your aid after Florida Prepaid is not sufficient then you will need to make a payment by the Last Day to Pay.

Q-012: I don't want to attend classes and I have Financial Aid (or Pre-Paid); will my classes be automatically dropped?(Back to Top)

A: No, you must drop your classes by the Last Day to DROP/ADD; otherwise you will be held liable for any classes you are registered for after that time.

Q-013: Is there any type of payment plan/program for tuition?(Back to Top)

A: Yes we offer a 2 or 3 installment plan which may be accessed by logging into my.fiu.edu and clicking on the installment plan link under Finances.

Q-014: I have Financial aid and/or Scholarship money awarded to me for the current term, but it is not enough to cover what I owe. How can I find out how much my portion is that I am supposed to pay?(Back to Top)

A: You may find out how much you owe for the current term by clicking HERE. After obtaining this information, refer to your Financial Aid Award Letter for your award amounts and subtract these award amounts from the total you owe the University. Florida Bright Futures Award recipients may also use the table on our Useful Tables page as a guide.

Q-015: A Third Party is paying my tuition & fees, however I still have a balance?(Back to Top)

A: Have you submitted your voucher and or Letter of Credit to TPbilling@fiu.edu and completed the Third Party Agreement and FERPA forms which can be accessed and completed electronically under the link Student eForms on the Student Center at my.fiu.edu, or can be completed at the Student Financials offices located in SASC 101 at MMC or AC1-140 at BBC

Q-016: I have a tuition waiver. Why does it still say I owe money?(Back to Top)

A: Tuition waivers are processed during the first week of class. If your waiver has not been processed please confirm that the waiver request has been received by contacting waivers@fiu.edu or the department offering the waiver. Also confirm that you meet the requirements to be eligible for the waiver. Other times it is because you are receiving a scholarship and/not a waiver.

Q-017: I have a Graduate Assistantship? How much do I have to pay?(Back to Top)

A: To figure out how much money you need to pay, find out from your Department how much money they are giving you and then subtract it from the total amount you owe the University. Note that there is a credit requirement to be eligible for this waiver.

Q-018: My Financial aid and/or Scholarship award money exceeds the amount of my tuition and fees. Will I receive the difference and when?(Back to Top)

A: Financial Aid and/or Scholarship money is disbursed to the students' accounts after the DROP/ADD period ends each term. After your account is paid, the excess financial aid funds are refunded to you. For the exact time your funds are to be released by Financial Aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office. You may also check the disbursement status of your awards online through the Financial Aid Award Status web page.

Q-019: I paid for my classes already but then I dropped courses prior to the DROP/ADD deadline. How and when will this money be refunded to me?(Back to Top)

A: Refunds for tuition and fees are processed automatically via a check or to your direct deposit. If you paid by credit card, your credit card will be refunded.

Q-020: Why do I have to pay the Health Fee and Athletic Fee if I already have health insurance of my own and do not attend athletic events nor use the gym? OR Why do I have to pay the Parking Access Fee when I do not have a car?(Back to Top)

A: These fees are mandatory fees and are charged to all students each semester. For further explanation of these charges please Click Here
